Crushes 2025 was a great success! So many fun folks came out, I got to see friends old and new and meet some wonderful people. My heart feels full and it's so fulfilling to see my hard work create such a cool event for art to thrive and heal. We were able to get lots of donations of zines to the LAPL to help rebuild the zine collection that was lost in the Palisades fire that took the Palisades library branch. We got to help artists who lost everything in the Eaton fire continue to recover. We had all kinds of artists across generations share and purchase zines and look at the Valentine's art show. It was a great time all around. I got to laugh with friends, and I hope that it was as much of a healing opportunity for others in the community too.
Now I am gearing up for a zine fest filled March, where I will be tabling pretty much every weekend for a bit there. I am so excited! I will be at:
LA Zine Fest at the Broad Museum (outdoors) on Sunday March 2nd 11am-5pm. It's a two day event this year and you need to RSVP to get free tickets to attend, however walk ups will also be accepted. You can RSVP to both days at:
https://www.lazinefest.com/
I am hoping to attend Saturday as well so I can see friends who aren't tabling with me Sunday!
Chaffey College's Zomics Zines and Comics Festival at Wignall Museum in Rancho Cucamonga: Wednesday March 5th 12-2pm. I did this fest last year and it's such a cool event they put on for their students and the general public to come enjoy zines and comics for the afternoon. I absolutely loved it last year and am excited to be back!
The very first IE Print & Zine Fest, being held March 15th 11-6pm at Kazaa Studio in Fontana. I love a fresh zine fest, and really can't wait for this one. I always love going to the IE and am glad the zine community there is growing!
But in the meantime, there is still a lot of February to experience, which includes of course Valentine's Day. I made this zine that you can download and print out that includes some of my favorite things that don't really have a place in other zines. I thought: "Favorite movies? Favorite TV Shows? Favorite bands? It's all been done. Favorite cars though?" I also sought the help of some folks on an Instagram poll of what sort of Favorites they would like to see. Enjoy!
Your art assignment this week:
Catalogue what you love. Go around your home and draw the things you really love. Make a visual list of the things that make you happy, that give you joy. Go outside of your home, or think about other things not in your immediate area that give you those feelings. Fill in a whole sheet of paper with drawings of the things you love!
I love my zine friends!
Love this! I'm gearing up for a new zine fest locally! I miss the ♥️ zine love
